Happy 1. Advent / Decorating

Over the next four Sundays Hanna and I will be collaborating in bringing you some Christmas posts. I'm very happy to have her, and am looking forward to the coming Advent Sundays.
So, let's hand over to Hanna:

Hello there everybody. My name is Hanna and I blog over on Hanna’s Places. I adore reading Helena’s blog so you can imagine how happy I was when she contacted me to ask if I wanted to collaborate on a column in the days leading up to Christmas. Every Advent Sunday we’ll share one great thing about Christmas time. Something that makes you appreciate this time even more.

To me, Christmas time is definitely the best time of the year. It’s cold outside, but cosy inside, you get to choose gifts for your loved ones (and already imagine seeing their faces when they open them), baking, ice skating, trips to the Christmas market...what’s not to love about it?

One of my favourite Christmas traditions is putting up the decorations on the first weekend of December. I usually put on some classic Christmas tunes - everything from Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby to Sufjan Stevens to She & Him is perfect - and take a few hours in the afternoon to prepare my home for Christmas. As it’s getting darker outside, there’s nothing more relaxing than finding the perfect place for all the little knick-knacks. When I was still living at home, my little brother was my partner in crime and I must admit - together as a family decorating is even more fun.

I know that everybody is stressed out this time of year and taking the time to decorate and actually enjoy it might seem like a luxury, but I want to urge you to do it anyway. It’s a great stress reliever and also puts you in the Christmas mood everybody wishes for every year.

And after you're done, turn on all the twinkly lights you just put up, make yourself a hot cocoa, eat some cookies and just enjoy your beautifully decorated room!

See you again next week.

  1. This is such a lovely post and good idea.

I think you're right, it's so important to relax and remember to enjoy! Difficult to do sometimes though :-) x

  2. I'm really digging the vintage Christmas music, as always. Have a fun time relaxing! Life's been crazy lately and we all deserve it.
