May on Instagram

Wow, May is over already. Every single month I'm amazed at how fast time is going by.
I just googled that and came across this article - it talks about why time seems to go by faster and faster as you get older. The reason being that we have less first-time experiences. Which is true if you think about it - how many times have you had pancakes before in your life? Been to the zoo? Went out for coffee? Met friends for brunch? Walked the same way to work? Did the same routine before going to bed every day?

This concept actually isn't completely new to me, I've heard about it before. Sometimes I try to remember to do something new on purpose - like eating something I've never had before, changing the route of my morning runs, taking a workshop in a subject completely new to me and challenging myself, etc...
What are some ways you can think of to switch things up a bit?

In general I think I have to live more in the present, and enjoy the moment. Sounds so easy, ha.
Any ideas on how to actually do that, and make it a bit easier than it sounds?

  1. That makes so much sense! It's been bothering me for ages that I don't seem to have the same about my life now as I do when I was little, the small enjoyable things don't seem to stick in my mind like they did back then. Now I know why!

    1. Glad this helped you figure out what the reason is - I really do miss being a child sometimes, though.

  2. As always, I drooled over every single one of your Instagrams for May. =]

I totally agree that having first time experiences makes time seem to pass more slowly. I think an easy way to keep your mind stimulated with new and fresh things is to seek out new information and new perspectives. This way you don't have to schedule actions or go out of your way all the time. It's still important to do that, but if you try fresh things inside your head it still works. Reading something new every day is important, and so is trying to look at something usual from a different perspective.

  4. Wow, I always wondered that too. Such an interesting article! And after reading it, definitely makes me want to have many more firsts. To enjoy life. I don't necessary hate getting older -- age, I think, brings more experiences, new memories and new adventures. I think this knowledge has definitely made time slow down a bit for me... :) Or at least seem to anyways.

By the way, lovely instagram feed! I, too, like to look back on the previous months with an instagram series. :)
